Releasing single tracks has always been a huge thing with DJs for some time now and this trend saw a huge rise in the recent two years when the musical events were getting canceled. One DJ that is not following this trend and sticking to playing his mixes at shows in New York City’s very own DJ J Star. He tells us why he chose not to release his singles and what his ulterior motives are.
“One particular reason why I don’t release single tracks is that I don’t want myself to be known for a single music genre. I don’t have a main genre and that is why I have fans from so many different genres. One single track cannot be from all the music genres I know. It will be like limiting myself and my success,” says DJ J Star. He is known for his unique style that includes several music genres like Rock, Hip Hop, Reggae, Salsa, House, Merengue, and many more. It comes as no shocker that he wishes not to be affiliated to a single music genre and only reach out to that specific crowd.
“Another reason for me to not work on single tracks, for now, is that I have a lot going on for me now. Doing my weekly show on the radio and live shows throughout the week take a toll on me. If I was to work on a single, I would have to take a break from all this and focus all my energy on the track,” adds J Star. It seems like a very evident reason for him as DJ J Star has been playing for Pitbull’s Sirius XM Radio Channel 13 for almost three years now. His weekly show is heard all over the world. On top of that, he also does nearly ten live shows as DJ in different spots across the Tri-State Area.
It has been revealed by DJ J Star that he does plan on working on a single track but he will do it on his terms. He shared with us in the end, “It’s not as I will never release a single track throughout my career. I’m just not ready for it at the current stage of my life with all that is going on. Everyone knows that everything I do I go all in or nothing. It is just the way I do things, professional and focused.” J Star is indeed well known for pursuing things much properly and unconventionally than many other DJs in the game. He was known for his DJ skill since a very early age but still felt the need for attending Audio Engineering for when he decides to release his singles he can be more hands-on. He says he doesn’t just want to slap his name on a record and call it a day as most DJ / Producers do but he wants to be part of the creative process from beginning to end. He then did multiple internships and jobs at renowned radio stations. All this resulted in him getting international brands such as Jack Daniels. Coors Light, Nike, and many more as his clients.
