When fast-forwarding, YouTube TV recordings “freeze” for Roku users

A fast-forwarding issue with DVR recordings is causing playback issues for many YouTube TV viewers on Roku, as the content remains frozen.

Since recordings make up a significant portion of YouTube TV’s attractiveness, problems greatly aggravate users. That’s precisely the issue for many Roku users, as a persistent YouTube TV bug is causing recordings to stall during playback.

Some Roku users of YouTube TV have been noticing for a few weeks that when they try to fast-forward recordings, the playback freezes. Restarting the recording after completely exiting the YouTube TV app is the only way to fix the issue. The issue is specific to Roku devices and does not exist on Google TV or other devices.

A fix is probably on the horizon because YouTube TV is aware of the issue and is investigating reports.

Meanwhile, a Reddit user discovered a possible solution. Apparently, the information continues to play when you fast-forward one “step” at a time. This is only effective up to a certain point because moving ahead more than a few steps will cause the material to freeze. Others claim that the frozen content appears to be forced to resume when the quality changes. It’s not the best solution either way, and Google will have to step in to make things right.
