Currently being tested in Android v2.24.15.5, the Meta-owned messaging service WhatsApp will allow users to instantly translate messages into many languages.
The goal of the new feature is to seamlessly translate foreign texts into WhatsApp chats without requiring users to exit the app by integrating Google’s Live Translate tool.
Users who update to this beta version will get a pop-up notification stating that transcripts for incoming voice messages are available, according to reports from feature tracker WABetaInfo. Users will need to download a language pack or voice message transcription in order to utilize this functionality. At the moment, Hindi, Hindi, Russian, Spanish, and Portuguese are supported by this feature. It’s important to note that the user’s phone is used for audio analysis and transcription, protecting privacy because voice messages are encrypted.
However, beta testers are not currently able to utilize the live transcribing option as it is still in development. Users may therefore not be able to access it if they are using the most recent WhatsApp for Android beta version through the Google Play Beta program. It’s unclear whether this new functionality is now available in the WhatsApp for Android beta client.
Furthermore, there are rumors that WhatsApp for Android is developing a live transcription option for voice communications. This feature would let users record and transmit voice messages as well as receive transcriptions. This might be signaled by a new banner that shows up beneath a voicemail and gives the option to get a transcription.
