To the “insensitive” passage about Auschwitz in Bawaal, Lisa Ray responds “noooo”

Bawaal, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, debuted on Prime Video on July 21 to mixed reviews. Actress Lisa Ray responded to a film quote that has gone viral.

The Nitesh Tiwari-directed film Bawaal was made available on Prime Video on July 21. The reference to the Holocaust in the context of a modern romance has drawn criticism from some critics of the Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor movie. Actor Lisa Ray has now responded to a scene in which Auschwitz is compared to a romantic relationship.

Nitesh Tiwari spoke out about the movie’s allusions to Hitler and World War II during the trailer’s launch event in Dubai. He stated, “When developing a character, you can look back and consider the past events and situations that may have had a significant impact on that character’s overall arc and the relationship at large. Hitler is not the only issue. There are plenty additional items that you might not have seen from the trailer. Every incident that could affect the overall arc has been very carefully planned.

The most insensitive parts of Bawaal are kept for the end, when the two visit the Auschwitz concentration camp and picture themselves suffocating within the gas chambers, according to the Hindustan Times assessment of the movie. The Holocaust is used as a convenient narrative scapegoat for the protagonists to confront their fears and save their dysfunctional marriage, which is an extremely horrific and despicable depiction. The historical undertone is lost as soon as the two meet. The scenes are colored by the black and white fading. The result is, to put it mildly, unsettling.
