This weekend, Hundreds turn out for Portland’s St. Patrick’s Day parade and celebrate going green

Driven by Gov. Janet Mills, members of civic organizations, law enforcement officers and firefighters marched along Commercial Street.

Several revelers decked out in green clothing, shamrocks and green, white and orange flags lined Commercial Street in Portland on Sunday for the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. Under shady skies and led by Gov. Janet Mills, various cultural, athletic and social organizations, alongside law enforcement officers and firefighters, walked to the tune of pipes and drums and Celtic folk tunes. Also, in light of a state law go in 2013, bars in the Old Port and somewhere else in Maine were permitted to begin serving liquor at 6 a.m. on St. Patrick’s Day when it falls on a Sunday.
