The US has authoritatively asked for the extradition of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou from Canada, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Canada said it got the removal ask for on Tuesday, as indicated by the Journal, a day before the January 30 deadline the US needed to present the demand. Meng was captured amid a stop-over in Vancouver on December 1 on doubt of breaking US trade sanctions.
On Monday, the US arraigned Meng and Huawei, blaming it for going around US sanctions on Iran and stealing trade secrets from T-Mobile. Sen. Mark Warner considered the organization a “national security threat,” trusting the organization to go about as a backdoor passage for the Chinese government.
Meng and Huawei have denied any bad behavior.
China has over and over denounced the move as politically engineered by the US. The Journal reports that Canadian authorities have until March 1 to audit the demand.
The topic of Meng’s extradition has sent swells through Canadian politics. Prime Minister Trudeau on Saturday terminated Canada’s ambassador to China, John McCallum, after he said the US dropping its arrangements to hold up an extradition demand would be “great for Canada.”
Meng’s capture additionally incited countering from China, which in this way kept two Canadian citizens and put another on death row.
