After being formally unveiled in China last week after being the subject of months of rumors, the OnePlus 12, which is renowned for its exceptional brightness, sharpness, power, and premium appearance, now has an official global launch date. This date has been essentially set in stone since late November.
Naturally, both the time of this eagerly awaited global event and the “horizon-expanding” feature of the marginally more affordable and lower-end OnePlus 12R were hidden until today. That’s correct, on January 23, 2024 at 7:30 pm IST (9 AM EST), both of these Android high-enders will go global. The specific location and time of the 12R’s sale are still unknown.
About the yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 behemoth with a speculated 120Hz OLED 6.74-inch screen, all OnePlus is willing to reveal is that it will be the first R-branded phone to be available “outside of India and China.” Although a commercial release in a few European markets in late January or early February still seems doubtful, it is yet possible.
Meanwhile, the ultra-premium OnePlus 12 is undoubtedly coming to America in addition to the old continent, though specific regional pricing for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 beast with a massive 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED display is still unknown.
In terms of selling points, the OnePlus 12’s boundary-pushing peak brightness appears to have eclipsed the screen size, resolution, and support for a 120Hz refresh rate. Other noteworthy features include a large 5,400mAh battery with insane 100W wired and 50W wireless charging capabilities and three superb Hasselblad-optimized rear-facing cameras using 50, 64, and 48MP sensors.
With the exception of battery size, where the overall smaller smartphone might manage to reach 5,500mAh while simultaneously supporting lightning-fast 100W cable charging and doing away with wireless charging, the OnePlus 12R is rumored to be more modestly priced overall.
