There will be a major update with a ton of new artificial intelligence features in iOS 18, which is expected to be unveiled at WWDC in June. Once again, according to a new report published today by Bloomberg, Apple views iOS 18 as “one of the biggest iOS updates — if not the biggest — in the company’s history.”
How will iOS 18 play out?
Bloomberg first revealed in November that Apple hoped iOS 18 would be the company’s most “ambitious and compelling” update in a long time. Today, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg says that sentiment hasn’t changed in the most recent edition of his Power On newsletter.
Along with the significant new AI features, Gurman promises that iOS 18 will bring “a lot more” to the iPhone. Gurman writes that Craig Federighi, Apple’s head of software engineering, informed staff members last year that the operating system, code-named Crystal, will undergo significant changes throughout.
According to Gurman’s earlier reports, iOS 18 will include several new AI integrations from Apple.
An upgraded Siri that is smarter and capable of utilizing a new AI system that uses large language model technology
Messages app AI integration that can “field questions and auto-complete sentences”
AI-powered “auto-generated playlists” are being added to Apple Music.
Adding generative AI to Pages and Keynote in the iWork suite of applications
For developers to “write new applications more quickly,” Xcode will now include generative AI features.
Additional information about the new features in iOS 18 is currently unavailable. But even with its plethora of new AI features, it appears that Apple has much more in store.
