Suno Releases iPhone App; Presently You Can Create AI Music On The Go

If you’ve ever wanted to produce music with Suno away from your computer, you’re in luck. It is now available for iOS—at least in the United States.

The generative AI program generates full songs with lyrics and vocals — or instrumentals if you choose — from nothing more than a text prompt or your own sound.

While it will initially only be available for iPhone in the United States, Suno states it will be accessible in other territories and on Android in the future, along with some “fun updates”.

According to the App Store listing, you may purchase Pro and Premier plans in-app, and they will also work on the web version.

The Friction of AI-powered Creativity

Suno is one of the most powerful AI music creation models on the market, capable of producing a wide variety of styles, genres, and sounds. This, combined with concerns over the data used to train it, has resulted in a legal dispute with the music industry.

If you’re concerned that the app may take away creative control, we spoke with Suno’s co-founder, Keenan Freyberg, earlier this year.

“We’re not trying to make music better, faster, or cheaper — whatever “better” would even mean,” he told Tom’s Guide. “We’re always trying to explore entirely new ways to experience and engage with music — things you can uniquely do with AI.”

That hasn’t stopped Suno from getting involved in legal conflicts with the music industry, although the company claims it has safeguards against using its tools to make music that sounds like or copies real artists, as well as from using real song lyrics.

One of the goals of generative AI music is to be able to send a short song to a friend or loved one, as well as to compete with the music industry, and the iPhone app makes that part much easier.
