Working with Vodafone and AMD to introduce the “industry’s first” Open RAN technology, Samsung Electronics has led the way in the RAN computing space.
With a focus on technological innovation, Samsung Electronics is currently thriving in the field of RAN networks through extensive collaboration.
Together with AMD, Samsung Electronics and Vodafone revealed today that they had successfully completed an end-to-end call using the newest AMD processors, enabling Open RAN technology—a first for the sector. This collaborative accomplishment demonstrates the businesses’ technological leadership in enhancing the Open RAN ecosystem across the whole market.
The first call was made using Samsung’s flexible, O-RAN-compliant virtualized RAN (vRAN) software, which was powered by AMD EPYC 8004 Series processors on Supermicro’s Telco/Edge servers and supported by Wind River Studio Container-as-a-Service (CaaS) platform. The call was conducted in the semiconductor giant’s R&D lab in Korea. The purpose of this demonstration was to confirm that the partner solutions’ optimized performance, energy efficiency, and interoperability.
With this joint demonstration, Samsung and Vodafone are demonstrating their continued commitment to strengthening their market position in the Open RAN space and growing their ecosystem with top partners. With more flexibility, faster time-to-market (TTM), and unmatched performance, operators can build and modernize mobile networks with the support of this expanding and wider Open RAN ecosystem.
At MWC2024, the companies will present test results for multi-UE on multi-cell configurations that surpass 1Gbps throughput. Samsung is a leader in providing vRAN and Open RAN solutions that are dependable, long-lasting, and perform better than telco-grade performance, as demonstrated by its robust ecosystem. Samsung has attempted to validate its vRAN and Open RAN solutions in order to provide network operators with an effective route to market, with the aim of pre-testing and integrating. For Tier 1 operators in North America, Europe, and Asia, Samsung has demonstrated its broad knowledge of commercial networks.
