The latest Chromecast with Google TV update (July 2024) is being released in advance of the Google TV Streamer’s introduction later this month. Google will continue to sell dongles even if it is no longer producing new ones; sales will continue until stock runs out and software updates are released.
upgrade STTE.240615.007 (from STTL.240508.005) to upgrade the Android security patch level to July 2024 (from June 2024) for Chromecast users using Google TV. It is still not reported in Google’s changelog for Android 12.
It’s larger than the latest update, which was 71.94 MB and released a little over a month ago, at 143 MB. Once more, there are “Other bug fixes and performance improvements.”
After six updates in nine months (February, March, April, May, August, and September), this is the sixth Chromecast with Google TV upgrade. Google has already met the 2023 rollout (January, April, May, July, October, and December).
Later this year, a significant update called Android 14 will arrive along with a “Home runtime” that will let the Chromecast with Google TV to function as a hub for Matter devices.
