Rising Up The Charts – Anurag Kureel’s Debut Single Kaagaz

26th July 2021, Bangalore: Anurag Kureel’s debut single Kaagaz, which came out a few months ago, has quickly captured the public attention, raking up thousands of likes on different social media platforms. The single was officially released on Youtube, gathering upwards of sixty five thousand views in less than a month. It has also been kicking up a storm in other forums, with over two thousand plays on Spotify, popular audio streaming service, and with thousands of likes on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram etc.

Gifted with a voice as fresh as a daisy, yet as melancholy as the solitary reaper, Anurag Kureel has had no formal training. Yet, even at his young age, Anurag has worked and collaborated with over fifteen bands, mostly in the Mumbai area. He has also done hundreds of live shows all across the Indian subcontinent, and experimented with different genres like rock, progressive rock, bollywood, indie and more.

Having always done exceptional in his studies, he chose to drop out of IIT Mumbai in 2016 to pursue a full-time career in music, and has since been creating music and playing live shows all across the country. “Music is my first love and I always wanted to build my life around it. So, once I knew what I really wanted to do in life, I found the courage to actually go ahead and do it. After all, it is not a race, it’s a journey!”

Even though Anurag plays the guitar, he doesn’t consider himself to be a guitarist. He believes one can’t completely grasp music without an instrument, so he plays the guitar to help understand the music better. Currently, Anurag is wandering somewhere around the majestic hills of Himachal Pradesh working on his upcoming album, and himself.

Speaking about music and his influences, Anurag said, “I try to create music around my experiences. So, I want to understand myself better as I put my thoughts into words. And, what’s better than putting your thoughts on a piece of paper to keep yourself at peace!

“I can mostly be found listening to music, talking music or making music. Whether I’m covering another song or making new ones, I always try to imbibe my emotions into my music so that it’s something more than just a flattering emulation.”, he added.
