In an exclusive interview, rising pop sensation Reese Warren opens up about the creative process behind her latest single Can’t Deny, a vibrant blend of pop and island vibes. Warren reflects on how her Polynesian roots influenced the song’s sound and reveals that she wrote the lyrics in less than an hour. She delves into the personal themes of love and self-confidence, sharing how her experiences shape her music. Warren also talks about balancing her dual career in music and acting, and how her voice acting role in LOL House of Surprises has honed her vocal skills.
1. Congratulations on Can’t Deny! Can you tell us about the creative process behind this new single?
My producers, Handy and We Believe Records, had the beat already for a couple of years. They had not been able to find a good match with lyrics, so they sent me the beat. I connected with it pretty much right away and the lyrics flowed out of me. I wrote the whole thing in less than an hour. After that, I went into the studio, and I laid down the main vocals.
2. How do you channel emotions like vulnerability and strength into your music?
I think that by writing about my own experiences and that of those around me I am able to share music that people can relate to.
3. The song blends pop with island vibes. What drew you to these musical elements?
I am half Polynesian and Caucasian. I love the sounds of the islands; the reggae beat and relaxed vibe. When I blend that into a pop sound it makes me want to dance and have a good time.
4. Can’t Deny explores love and self-confidence. How do these themes resonate with you personally?
I think the theme is something that not only resonates with me but to most people. I think the message is to take the risk, be honest and transparent with yourself and a love interest. Even though there is uncertainty, it is better to know where you stand.
5. Is there a specific lyric in Can’t Deny that holds special meaning for you?
The whole song has special meaning to me because it is my first song that I have written completely on my own. If I was to pick one of my favorite lines in the song it would be…
“So show me what your made of Show me that you got what it takes”
6. How do you feel your role on LOL House of Surprises has shaped your work as a musician?
My role as MC Swag on LOL House of Surprises is a Voice Over role. The biggest aspect of how this role has shaped me as a musician is to be prepared. My voice is a powerful tool and it needs to be taken care of and trained properly.
7. What has been the most rewarding part of working on both music and acting projects simultaneously?
The most rewarding part of doing both music and acting is the fact that I GET to do both. Both are extremely hard industries to break into and being able to see progress in both areas is the BEST thing.
8. What are you most excited for fans to experience with Can’t Deny?
The thing I am most excited about is for them to hear how different it is from my previous releases. I want them to see my maturity and progress. I hope they love the song and the video and will celebrate it with me. J
