Jordan York is best known for his witty Pittsburgh themed songs and community work he does through-out the city, but since the pandemic hit, he added running to his long list of things he is involved in.
A few years ago, his friend, Mitch Minda, who is a collegiate track star asked York to go for a run. Shortly after York fell in love with running, competing in 5k, 10K races throughout the city of Pittsburgh pretty much every weekend.
Fast forward 2 years later with the pandemic still going on, York wanted to go into 2021 leaving his comfort zone and decided to do the 100 miles a month in 2021 challenge, which so far, he has achieved that every month with 300 miles in to start the year.
York attributes his work ethic and dedicates the runs to his father, Tim York, who is a former professional bodybuilder. “Growing up my dad always told me that living a healthy lifestyle is important, not just physically but mentally,” said York. “Since I began running, I crave it more and more. Just being outside and the way I feel since I committed to do this is truly amazing.”
York has no plans on slowing down, he was training to do the Pittsburgh Marathon this year, but it was cancelled due to COVID-19. Maybe an ultra, 10K and some full marathons are in the future for this runner.
York said “I truly enjoy running and plan on keeping up with the 100 miles a month for the rest of the year. Running for me has had truly so many benefits in so many aspects of my life and I can’t wait to see where it takes me.”
York is currently working on new music, is the co-owner of the fastest growing sports website, YinzerCrazy.com with his best friend Michael Nicastro, and is making a difference working with local nonprofits and local politicians in the city of Pittsburgh.
