New Direct Flights to Turks and Caicos to Be Started by American Airlines

American Airlines is set to launch two weekly direct non-stop flights from Miami to the Norman B. Saunders Airport in South Caicos on February 15, 2025. The planes are scheduled to take off at 10:05 am and land at 12:27 pm.

The only US airline operating to South Caicos will be American Airlines, which will serve as the airline’s second destination in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The Hon. Josephine Connolly, Minister of Tourism, stated, “This new service aligns perfectly with our policy vision to diversify the tourism offering and ensure that each island within the Turks and Caicos Islands benefits from the tourism industry.”

She added, “By enhancing accessibility to South Caicos, we are opening up new avenues for economic development and providing unique and enriching opportunities for our visitors. Together we aspire to forge a promising future, creating a wealth of opportunities for our citizens and delivering unparalleled experiences for our visitors.”

The American Airlines service is scheduled to begin on the same day as the South Caicos opening of Salterra, A Luxury Collection Resort & Spa. Experience Turks and Caicos Chairman Mr. Alvin Hegner stated that his team is developing and improving South Caicos’ tourism offering in anticipation of the rush of tourists that will arrive in 2025 as a result of the new airlift and hotel.

“South Caicos is our fishing capital, but it is also full of history,” Mr. Hegner stated in a release. Visitors can take day tours to learn about the history or see sights like the Boiling Hole, an underwater passage that connects the ocean to the main salina pond. The Salinas serve as a reminder of the sea salt industry that the Turks and Caicos once relied on. Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh visited Cockburn Town on the Royal Yacht Britannia.

He added, “There are countless marine activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, bone-fishing and a range of activities year-round such as the highly anticipated South Caicos Regatta. We recently appointed a local representative to South Caicos to assist in the enhancement and development of the Big South and I am certain the community will benefit from all of these new developments.”
