A dedicated contact editor is now included in the Microsoft Outlook mobile app. It takes the role of the system contacts editor and offers greater Intune integration for Outlook-using businesses, along with a more unified interface and additional functionality.
Previously, each upgrade to the built-in contacts app on a smartphone could result in glitches or inconsistent syncing between Outlook Mobile and other apps. Crucially, third-party contact apps frequently conflict with Intune restrictions within organizations. For example, a Microsoft Intune policy prohibiting business personnel from copying and pasting contact information might not be enforced in the built-in contacts app on a smartphone.
Outlook Mobile’s contact synchronization functionality will remain supported. However, the need for contact syncing is significantly decreased with the inclusion of an integrated contact editor that complies with Intune. For companies that depend on Microsoft 365 services, it’s the best choice.
The Outlook Mobile app’s “Apps” tab at the bottom gives you access to the new contact editor. Additionally, contacts can be added through Outlook Mobile’s “People” section or by scanning a business card, albeit the latter method is only available on Android devices right now.
Naturally, the majority of the features included in the Outlook desktop software are also available in the contact editor on Outlook Mobile. Contacts can be categorized, and contacts created in Outlook Mobile can be synchronized with the built-in contacts software on your smartphone.
In April 2024, Microsoft started releasing the contact editor for Outlook Mobile. As the iOS and Android rollouts are now complete, all users who have updated their apps should be able to access the functionality. Keep in mind that after applying the most recent update, any contacts that were previously synchronized with Outlook will remain intact.
