Miley Cyrus’ New Year’s Eve special on NBC and Peacock will feature Dolly Parton as a co-host

Dolly Parton, a legendary country star, will co-host Miley Cyrus’ live New Year’s Eve special on December 31 in Miami, Florida. “‘Miley’s New Year’s Party’ is about getting glamorous and dressing your best,” Cyrus said in a promotional video posted to Instagram on Tuesday.

“Well, we do that every day. Don’t we, Miley?” Parton chimed in.

The singer from “Wrecking Ball” said, “You taught me well.”

Additionally, the “9 to 5” singer stated that the special would be “legendary,” which Cyrus affirmed, “She would know!”

As the “Rockin’ Years” singer is a close friend of Cyrus’ father, Billy Ray Cyrus, they have a long history together. The brunette duo has collaborated on live versions of Parton’s “Jolene” and Cyrus’ “Younger Now” album in 2017’s “Rainbowland.”

A duet with Parton titled “Christmas Is” was also performed by Cyrus on the 2020 album “A Holly Dolly Christmas.”

This will be Cyrus’ second consecutive New Year’s Eve show produced by Lorne Michaels. The show from last year featured performances by Jack Harlow, Brandi Carlile, Saweetie, Noah Cyrus, Anitta, 24kGoldn, Kitty Ca$h, and others. Pete Davidson, a former cast member of “Saturday Night Live,” served as Cyrus’ co-host.

“Lorne Michaels is literally a master at improvising and putting together a show of this scale. He does it every week in five days,” Cyrus told Variety earlier this year. “I think everyone wants to watch something that is real and honest and genuine and authentic —which is relatable to the way that everyone celebrates at home.”

“Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest” was the most-watched NYE special on television last year, with 6.3 million viewers from 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., compared to Seacrest’s 19.6 million total viewers.

However, Cyrus’ broadcast also sparked controversy because it was the NYE special with the most Twitter trends.

Cyrus’s wardrobe malfunction during a performance of “Party in the USA” marked the beginning of 2021.

“Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party” airs live on NBC and Peacock at 10:30 p.m. EST on Dec. 31.
