Let’s be honest. Jack Harlow took the country by storm with “What’s Poppin” but we really wanted to act like the song was a fluke. As dismissive as we were the song just kept getting bigger and bigger. Next, we dubbed him a one hit wonder. Then Tyler Hero Dropped, then “Luv is Dro” with Louisville’s on Bryson Tiller and the legendary Static Major. For those unaware Static Major was also from Louisville. We learn that Jack is from there too. Suddenly our ears begin to perk up. Louisville my just have that heat!
When I got this submission I kept an open mind, as I always do. A music video from rapper Young Block called “Miami Me” I’m ready for the hometown Miami street pride anthem. Instead, what I get is a catchy ditty. Fly fun and edgy but this guy doesn’t sound like he’s from Miami. Upon further rummaging online I land up on an absolute banger! “Spin The Block” Comes in like a typhoon. Hard beats harder lyrics. The video has the city tagged, it’s Louisville again!
I’m starting to notice a trend here with this city. Are they the next city to make a major stamp on Black music? Young Block would go a long way toward adding to this budding music scene nationally. He’d do well to keep dropping new music consistently and promote it until the wheels fall off. He has a familiar sound but with an authentic take on it. We’re spinning the block for sure!
