Joshua Turchin’s Newest Show at 54 Below

Joshua Turchin is bringing his unique talent to a very special night at 54 Below in New York City.  His latest venture brought Shakespeare to Broadway in an unforgettable theatrical experience called “54 Sings the Bard: Broadway Goes Shakespeare. Joshua has been involved in close to 30 shows at the iconic supperclub, but this was his first show as an 18 year old adult. With the help of his Broadway friends, this show is sure to be one for the books! I recently had the opportunity to interview Joshua about this new show as well as his plans for future projects. Hi Joshua! Thank you for interviewing with us! How are you doing?

1. Your newest show at 54 Below was on October 5th. How was this show different from the others you’ve done?

Hi! Thanks for interviewing me! Most shows I’ve done at 54 Below I’ve had a co-producer. This is the first show where I’m the sole producer! I’m also the music director, accompanist, and singer. The roles all overlap, so I’m very used to the musical logistics of the shows.

2. How do you decide who to cast in the show?

Most of the people I cast in shows are either Broadway friends or people who reach out. It really depends on whether they’re available or not to do it!

3. How long have you done shows at 54 Below? Why do you love working with them?

I’ve been performing and music directing at 54 Below since I was 12 years old. Everyone there is so incredibly nice, the people who run tech are always on top of their game, and the space is amazing for performing!

4. This is the first show you’ve produced as an adult at this famed supper club. How have your shows changed as you’ve matured?

As I’ve grown, I’ve definitely learned the structure behind what makes a good cabaret. Pacing, script format, and comedy are integral parts of shows, and I didn’t have as strong of an understanding of how to incorporate them into my shows at a young age compared to now.

5. Do you have plans or an idea for another show after this one?

I have a few ideas, but I can’t share anything yet!

6. As a producer, what would be your dream project?

Every show that I’m able to work with friends on is already a dream project for me!

7. Do you have plans in the works to release any original singles in the coming months?

I’ve been working on some more original music, and I’m planning on releasing a few in the upcoming months. Make sure to check out my social media for release dates and more!
