Previous NFL guarded back Irv Cross, who was likewise a pioneer in communicating for “The NFL Today” during the 1970s, passed on at 81 years of age.
Cross’s death was reported by the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night.
A two-time Pro Bowler in 1964 and 1965, Cross played for the Eagles from 1961-65, and a second time in 1969. He played for the Rams from 1966-68. After he resigned, Cross quickly turned into a NFL telecaster for CBS in 1971.
Cross was a piece of the group that began “The NFL Today” in 1975. He collaborated with Brent Musburger, and afterward Phyllis George and Jimmy “The Greek” Snyder.
“I’ve been around all kinds of people, from every walk of life. I don’t know that I could give you one person who was nicer than Irv Cross. He was a constant gentleman,” Brent Musburger said.
Cross was a telecaster on “The NFL Today” from 1975 until 1989. Back in 2009, he was the beneficiary of the Hall of Fame’s Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award.
