At the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2024, Asus is expected to reveal the ROG Phone 8 series on January 8. The ROG-series gaming phones are scheduled to be unveiled for the Chinese market on January 16. The ROG Phone 8 series’ IP rating was verified by the brand today.
IP68-rated chassis to be included in the ROG Phone 8 series
As the teaser above indicates, Asus has formally announced that the ROG Phone 8 series will have an IP68-rated chassis. This indicates that the ROG Phone 8 series will have a dust- and water-resistant design, giving users increased robustness and weather protection. With an IP68 rating, users can be assured of a more durable and dependable gaming smartphone experience because the chassis is tightly sealed to keep out dust and can withstand submersion in water up to a certain depth. Compared to the ROG Phone 7’s IP54 and the ROG Phone 6 series’ IPX4 ratings, it is a noticeable improvement.
The ROG Phone 8 series has previously been hinted to, and it will have a new display design. The ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro will have thin bezels surrounding a punch-hole display in place of the thick bezels found on earlier models. The ROG Phone 8 series will support gimbal stabilization so that stabilized footage can be recorded, the brand has also confirmed.
The Red Magic 9 Pro series will face competition from the ROG Phone 8 series in the Chinese market. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset will be available in the ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro, just like in the Nubia gaming phones.
The ROG Phone 8 series doesn’t seem to be following its predecessors’ traditional gaming phone model to the letter. Rather, it seems to be more focused on performance, with a special emphasis on features like a better camera experience.
