Instead of showcasing any new products at MWC 2024, Human Mobile Devices (HMD), the company that makes phones under the Nokia brand, announced that new products would be available this summer.
A partnership between HMD and Mattel, an American toy company best known for creating the Barbie doll, was also revealed. July will see the release of a new flip phone by HMD with a Barbie theme as part of the new partnership. The only information available about the new phone, aside from its form factor, is that it will be pink. The company has only revealed that it will be a “retro-functional” device, without providing any technical details.
A new phone bearing the Nokia name will also be released in May, according to HMD. It is a push-button device, given the company’s recent announcement that it will no longer be using the Nokia brand in its smartphones. Anyway, this is what the press release from HMD during MWC 2024 says: “Nokia phones will still be available.” On the other hand, the company chose to eventually launch another smartphone under the once-popular brand, indicating that the brand’s abandonment may occur gradually.
Two HMD smartphones, about which no information is currently available, are also scheduled for release in July, according to the roadmap that has been provided.
