Google redesigns the symbol for the Pixel Thermometer

Google frequently updates its apps, and the most recent update gives the Pixel Thermometer app a new appearance. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s the device that allows you to use your Pixel phone alone to measure the temperature of surfaces.

A white thermometer against a gentle blue background is the focal point of the new icon. However, it is important to note that this “new” icon shape is basically identical to the previous and present Themed icon.

The former icon had a more complex design, with a thermometer in Google’s characteristic colors on a black backdrop, as seen in the screenshots. The container was white with three red, yellow, and green spots on it, and the mercury was blue.

The new design is unquestionably more generic, which is apparently the prevailing tendency right now, but that’s a different topic. Nevertheless, the blue complements other Google Pixel apps like the Weather, Tips, Magnifier, and, to a lesser degree, Screenshots. Since no other app in that group had that capability, the previous Pixel Thermometer symbol, with its black backdrop, didn’t exactly blend in with the others. It’s very amazing how even a minor makeover like this can improve the overall appearance of the screen.

The Pixel 8 Pro, 9 Pro, and 9 Pro XL are essentially the only phones that support the app, therefore the Pixel Thermometer version 1.0.700924790 with the redesigned icon hasn’t been widely released yet. The reason for this is that the app uses a temperature sensor, which is found on the back of these phones, close to the camera.

In other Google news, Android users may now detect and stop hidden Bluetooth trackers thanks to a recent update. Previously anticipated for Android 16, a new Privacy dashboard feature is now being released. In order to combat motion sickness, Google is also developing a Motion Cues feature for Android.
