Fans of Google Meet, rejoice! Now available to Google Meet users is a new update that allows them to view chat messages sent by participants who joined through the meeting link.
The new functionality will enable attendees of a live stream to see information offered through Meet chat messages, such as links, time-keeping messages, and more.
Until now, only hosts, co-hosts, participants, and viewers present at the main meeting could see in-call chat communications. The next time chat messages are transmitted during a live stream after installing the update, a notification will appear. A conversation panel will open after you click on the notification.
Naturally, not every Google Meet user will be able to use this feature. Only the Google Workspace editions listed below will be able to start a live stream and activate this feature, according to the Mountain View company: Education Plus, the Teaching & Learning update, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, and Enterprise Essentials Plus.
The bad news is that Google says this functionality will launch much more slowly than usual. That’s because there will be a lot of holidays and other events as the year draws to a close.
Nevertheless, this update should be sent to everyone enrolled in the Rapid Release domains sometime in the week of December 5, 2024. Don’t even look for the upgrade until November 18, as that is when the distribution is expected to begin.
Customers registered in Scheduled Release domains, however, will not be able to receive the upgrade until the end of Q1 2025. There will be a significant amount of waiting since Google revealed that the delayed distribution of this Meet upgrade won’t begin until January 6, 2025.
