Google may eventually allow you to use cellular data to sync Pixel notifications

A few Android 15 updates improved the experience of utilizing several Pixel phones and tablets as part of Google’s efforts to create a multi-device ecosystem under the Pixel brand. When you turn off notifications on your Pixel phone or Pixel tablet, one of these features instantly turns off notifications on all of your Pixel devices. It’s a very useful function. It only functions via Wi-Fi, though, which isn’t particularly useful if you’re constantly blocking notifications on your phone while you’re out and about.

According to code strings discovered by Android Authority, the business appears to be aware of this restriction and is exploring a feature that would allow notifications to be synced using cellular data. The strings were observed in the Device Connectivity Service app version 1.0.687093228_arm64-v8a_release_phone. Behind the scenes, this Pixel-specific app manages cross-device services between Pixel phones. It contains evidence that Google may eventually allow you to sync notifications using cellular data.

According to the description, the toggle allows users to “use mobile network to sync when no Wi-Fi is connected.” Although it isn’t accessible to the general public, a future software update might provide the feature.

Up until now, only Wi-Fi connections have been able to sync notifications with Pixel devices. According to the fine print, “Dismiss notifications across Pixel devices sync when each device is connected to Wi-Fi.” This will probably save cellular data consumption and battery life. For those who have limitless data plans or are prepared to forgo the battery life hit, a setting that allows users to enable cellular use would be perfect.

Google is working on more broad Cross Device Services that bridge the gap between other Android brands, even though the ability to dismiss notifications across Pixel devices is limited to Pixel phones and tablets. Cross Device Services was introduced to Nothing phones more recently.

For the time being, users of Pixel phones and tablets will have to wait for Wi-Fi to sync their ignored alerts. Nonetheless, this recent advancement raises the possibility that a cellular solution will eventually be available.
