Google is launching Pixel Camera 9.8 with the March 2025 Feature Drop. As with all updates, it may take some time before it reaches all users.

Update 3/10: The rollout of Pixel Camera version 9.8 is expanding today, featuring a new build, 9.8.102.732237915.11, compared to the previous 9.8.102.734407072.13. This follows the introduction of Connected Cameras for the Pixel 9 series last week.

Original 3/5: This update is smaller than the December release, which introduced Quick access controls. Pixel Camera 9.8 now includes a toggle for “Turn on animation for Astrophotography” found in Settings > Advanced, which is enabled by default, maintaining previous functionality. Google has also confirmed that the Palm timer “raise your hand” feature is compatible with the rear camera.

For Pixel Fold users, Dual Screen Preview is now available while recording video, and the Add Me feature on the 9 Pro Fold can now be displayed on the external screen.

Additionally, users of the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold can take advantage of the remote Connected Cameras feature. This allows for seamless capturing or live streaming with compatible camera apps using remote cameras.

Supported devices include the Pixel 6+ and GoPro models 10 and later, provided they are updated with the latest software. Compatible apps include YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok.

To utilize this feature, you may need to update the Device Connectivity Service app. This functionality is part of Cross-device services, which also includes Call casting and Internet sharing. Once everything is set up, navigate to Settings > Connected devices > Connected preferences > Connected Cameras to enable it.

The Camera Picker is a floating, pill-shaped interface that allows you to add, remove, or disconnect a remote camera, as well as switch between your device and a remote camera.

Additional notes include:

  • You can only connect to devices that are signed in with your Google Account.
  • Only one remote camera can be connected at a time. To connect a different remote camera, you must first disconnect the current one.
  • Audio will be sourced from the connected camera.
  • Utilizing a Bluetooth audio source could potentially lower the quality of your streaming experience.
