Google Drive for Desktop now supports Windows 11 ARM64 in beta

Google’s well-liked Drive for Desktop program will now be available for Windows 11 ARM64 PCs. Better compatibility and performance on these devices is ensured by the beta release’s native ARM64 binaries. A warning, though, is that this version does not support the Outlook Meet plugin.

Google is cautioning users about using the beta release, as is customary. The business advises either using the application with non-production data or making sure backups are kept in a different location. Given that beta software frequently has defects that could interfere with important procedures, this is a wise decision.

You will need Microsoft WebView2 and a Windows 11 device to run the beta. Even though WebView2 is normally part of Windows 11, if it isn’t, Google’s installer will ask you to download and install it. The beta is available for direct download from Google at this link: Google Drive for Desktop ARM64 Beta, for those who are eager to test it out.

In order to improve this beta, Google is actively looking for feedback. You can provide feedback via the app, along with logs to aid Google in troubleshooting, if you run into any problems. In order to improve programs like Drive for Desktop, users and developers must work together.

For those of you entering the beta, let’s hope that this is the beginning of improved support for Windows PCs with ARM architectures, which have frequently been neglected by big software providers. Google’s entry may encourage others to do the same.
