Google Contacts app for Android has begun to receive a minor but helpful upgrade from Google that makes it simpler to check the app’s backup and sync status. In addition to a few UI improvements, this version improves the way users manage and engage with their contacts.
Organize Tab’s New Sync Status Card
Google Contacts version 4.49 adds a new information card to the Organize tab. Important information that was previously harder to locate is displayed on this card, including:
- The quantity of contacts kept in the Google Account that is connected.
- The Google account currently in use.
- When the contacts were last synchronized to the cloud.
Accessing Sync Settings More Easily
This update’s ability to interact with the sync status card is a noteworthy improvement. Pressing it brings up a specific page that explains:
“Contacts stored with your Google Account automatically sync with this device and are available across Google services anywhere you sign in, including contacts.google.com.”
Users will discover a direct shortcut to Google Contacts sync settings beneath this explanation, making it much easier to use than previously. A much-needed improvement, these options are now readily accessible from the Contacts app itself, after previously being hidden within Google Play Services.
Updates to the Account Menu’s User Interface
There has also been an upgrade for the account switcher. The Last Sync Status is now more visible inside the account menu. The interface is also made more streamlined by removing any signed-in accounts from the list by default. To examine every account that is available, users can tap a chevron to expand the list. Swiping up and down from the homepage still works, though, for users who would rather switch more quickly.
Although it might appear contradictory at first, hiding signed-in accounts maintains the user interface (UI) more streamlined and orderly, especially for users who manage several Google accounts.
Google Contacts Version 4.49 is now available
This version on Android smartphones is now receiving these changes. Even though these improvements are small in the big picture, they make contact management easier to use on all devices and make the experience more efficient. The update should be available through the Google Play Store shortly if you haven’t already.
