In anticipation of the production rollout, Google has begun testing a new version of Android Auto 14.2, and the first beta build is currently accessible for download.

Although the initial target audience for these updates is those who are part of the Android Auto beta program, anyone can get the same update on their device because of the standalone APK installers.

To finish the update, users need to download the APK files to their devices, hit the installers, and adhere to the on-screen directions. Installing apps from sources other than the Google Play Store may also require additional permissions on some devices.

Android Auto 14.2 keeps releasing a number of significant builds that set the stage for significant enhancements for drivers.

First, full Android games may be played in the automobile with this release. The first games, such as Candy Crush and Angry Birds, were made available on Android Auto by Google, enabling consumers to play them on their infotainment systems while they are parked. After being installed on a smartphone running Android 15 and upgraded to the most recent version of Android Auto, the games can be played. While gaming performance isn’t always perfect, it also depends on the specs of your infotainment system.

Second, Google is trying to further integrate Android Auto with the car.

Android Automotive leads the company’s approach in this area, as you are likely already aware if you are familiar with Google’s automobile lineup. Android Automotive is installed at the hardware level, giving it access to more vehicle functions than Android Auto, which needs a smartphone to function in a car.

For instance, prior builds indicated that it will have specific choices to operate the air conditioning system from the infotainment system since Google wants Android Auto users to be able to change the cabin’s temperature without ever leaving the app.

Additionally, Google intends to make FM radio stations available to Android Auto users. In order to enable consumers to listen in to their preferred radio stations without utilizing the car’s built-in infotainment system, the business is developing a new app called Car Media that will be connected with Android Auto. Although it’s unclear how this will operate, prior Android Auto releases have consistently included evidence of the Car Media app.

Additionally, the search engine behemoth is testing more subdued modifications to Android Auto, such as offering a fast escape button that will take users back to the car’s original software. Some smartphones already have the button in the sidebar, allowing users to exit Android Auto with a simple tap. Since the button hasn’t been activated on every device, Google’s intentions in this regard are still unknown.

If no significant bugs are discovered, the production distribution of the full Android Auto build, 14.2.1515 beta, should begin next week via the Google Play Store.
