Galaxy Z Flip 6 May Offer A Lame Cover Screen Quality Decrease

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 had a significant increase in cover display size. The Z Flip 4 and Flip 3 featured 1.9-inch cover displays that weren’t really useful, but Samsung remedied this by providing the Flip 5 with a 3.4-inch cover display.

It has been known for some time that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will also include a 3.4-inch cover display, however it appears that a key piece of information has slipped under the radar: the Galaxy Z Flip 6 cover display may employ an IPS LCD panel rather than a Super AMOLED panel.

It is 2024, and LCD displays are no longer fashionable

This information is based on a leaked image that showcases some of the greatest Galaxy Z Flip 6 features. The image also includes the phone’s entire specification sheet, which specifies the second/cover display technology as IPS.

If accurate, it would be a significant reduction from the Z Flip 5, which has a Super AMOLED panel on both of its panels. IPS LCD panels cannot match the contrast of OLED panels since they require a backlight and cannot turn off individual pixels to achieve deep blacks. They are also more power hungry.

Granted, on a 3.4-inch screen, the reduced power efficiency might not be a deal-breaker. However, there will be a noticeable difference in image quality, and given that Samsung is hiking the prices for both the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip lineups this year, such a decrease would be unacceptable.

However, it is possible that this information is inaccurate. Rumors and leaks about the Galaxy Z Flip 6 have circulated for months, but no evidence has emerged to suggest that the Z Flip 6 would sport an IPS LCD cover display.
