Johnson may have been a salary-cap casualty if he had not rebuilt his agreement.
Johnson would have been owed almost $9 million of every 2021, of which just $2.1 million was ensured, prior to agreeing to the restructured deal.
Houston traded for Johnson in March 2020 out of an arrangement that sent wide collector DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals.
