Crews late Sunday were all the while doing combating a fire that began toward the evening in Worthington State Forest in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.
Hikers were asked to dodge an area from the Delaware Water Gap as state and government offices fight a fire. The fire began on Mount Tammany off of the well known Red Dot Trail on the New Jersey side of the Delaware Water Gap, as per a Facebook post by the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, amid a radiant February day arriving at the mid-50s.
Authorities are utilizing air support to put out the blast. The blast was noticeable from I-80, which was supported up in the two directions.
Guests who were on the Red Dot and Blue Blazed trails were permitted to hike down, however, the two paths were shut toward the evening to explorers heading up the mountain, as per the Facebook post.
A New Jersey State Forest Fire Service helicopter dropped water on the fire, however, National Park Service representative Kathleen Sandt told the New Jersey Herald that the airplane needed to quit working after sundown for safety reasons. Volunteer firemen were topping off knapsack tanks of water and carrying them to the highest point of the 1,526-foot (465-meter) Mount Tammany, Sandt said.
A Facebook post-Sunday night from the Delaware Water Gap Fire Department showed the blast covered about 70 acres.
The reason for the fire wasn’t clear Sunday night.
