Android-operated Smart Glasses From Samsung Could Debut Sooner Than Anticipated

The Project Moohan XR headset from Samsung is an exhilarating demonstration of the potential contributions of Android to mixed reality. However, to be frank, it’s unlikely that many will take on a heavy headset. For prolonged daily use, it’s just not practical. This is where smart glasses are useful. Smart glasses, being lightweight and suitable for all-day wear, provide a comfort and flexibility level that larger headsets—such as Apple’s Vision Pro or Samsung’s forthcoming Project Moohan—simply cannot achieve. Fortunately, Samsung appears to have acknowledged this and, in contrast to Apple, is said to be nearing the launch of its own XR smart glasses.

The report indicates that Samsung intends to launch its Android XR glasses this year. It is said that the device has been given the codename “Haean” (after a township in South Korea) and that the company is in the process of finalizing its features and specifications. Samsung seems to be concentrating on enhancing the comfort of the glasses by customizing them for various face shapes. It is also anticipated that the glasses will incorporate several cameras and sensors designed to monitor movement.

Moreover, the most recent report indicates that Samsung may launch the Haean smart glasses and the Project Moohan headset simultaneously later this year.

Though Samsung’s entry into the smart glasses market isn’t particularly unexpected, introducing them alongside the Moohan headset would be a remarkable strategy. Qualcomm had previously suggested that the glasses from Samsung would utilize the Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 chip, which is also found in the Moohan headset. There are also reports suggesting that the glasses could have a 12MP camera and a 155mAh battery, but the final specifications are not yet disclosed.

If Samsung can successfully execute this dual launch, it may represent a major advancement in the development of mixed reality.
