Users can expect the rollout of Android Auto 14.0 as an update in the Google Play Store. The Android Auto 14.0 update does not seem to introduce any new features or changes in behavior, but it does contain a few indications that Gemini may soon take the place of Google Assistant.

This shouldn’t be a huge surprise, as Google disclosed at the start of this month that Gemini would officially take over from Assistant on most devices by 2025’s end. There are already indications that Gemini may eventually extend to Google TV, Android Auto, and Nest hardware. With the stable rollout of Android Auto 14.0, additional code strings are available that provide a preview of how Gemini might take over Android Auto screens.

One specific prompt, concealed within the Android Auto 14.0 APK, states, “Gemini is now your car’s personal AI assistant.”

the report also disclosed the following code strings in Android Auto 14.0 that suggest upcoming Gemini features, prompts, and survey questions:

The Android Auto 14.0 update also includes various images for both Gemini and Gemini Live, in addition to the code strings. However, these strings are not live, so do not expect to use them after you update to the latest version of Android Auto. When this was published, Gemini wasn’t yet usable in Android Auto.

Nonetheless, it seems that Google is preparing to transition from Assistant to Gemini on Android Auto in the near future. As we have already observed, Gemini features can be activated manually. The latest image assets and code strings in Android Auto 14.0 provide further evidence that the transition could be happening very soon.

The exact timing of the Gemini experience’s availability for Android Auto users is uncertain.
