We asked Jeremy Devaughn, an indie artist from Chicago to share some tips on managing work and play. Side note, his brand new album will be released on all platforms in a couple of weeks! Check him out on Instagram for updates.
How do you successfully run your business and still have time to work on your passion (music)?
Jeremy: I think this simply comes down to time management. It’s taken me a very long time to get disciplined enough to be able to just get things done! Many times we make excuses on why we can’t do a certain thing. I feel like, if something is that important to you, you will make the time.
Should I work on my passion project full-time?
Only if you can afford it! Believe me I know the feeling of just wanting to run out of work and never look back, but we have to be smart about this. What I did was create a business that could be pretty much automated which allowed me the time to focus on music.
It all comes down to what you REALLY want.
What tools do you use to help manage your life?
I use trello for managing personal and business tasks, it’s easy to use and very effective! Remember managing your personal tasks are just as important as the tasks you do at work if you want to ensure you have “time” to work on your passion projects.
I feel like I’m all over the place?
Turn off your phone & computer and just stop for a moment. Typically we feel this way when we’re overloaded with information and just life in general. You need to gain clarity. Figure out what your ideal life looks like and shave off anything that’s not conducive to that lifestyle.
This is probably the most challenging, but also the most important piece to success in my opinion. When we gain clarity and focus on whatever that thing is I believe anything is possible.
