According to reports, Apple included a security mechanism in iOS 18, the most recent version of the iPhone operating system, that causes the device to reboot after 72 hours of being unlocked.
According to TechCrunch on Thursday, November 14, this feature makes the phone more secure, making it more difficult for criminals to unlock a stolen phone using less advanced forensic tools. It also gives law enforcement three days to access the data on a criminal’s phone.
According to the research, when a phone is rebooted, its data is encrypted and practically impossible to access without the user’s passcode.
This research was released approximately two months after Apple debuted Apple Intelligence, a suite of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, and its latest smartphone lineup, the iPhone 16.
The new A18 chip from Apple, which promises a performance and efficiency boost, powers the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. It also features a Camera Control feature that lets users quickly access visual intelligence to learn about nearby objects or locations and introduces new ways to capture memories.
Meanwhile, in October, it was reported that interest in the iPhone had somewhat waned. Compared to 23% in 2023 and 24% in 2022, 22% of teenagers said they intended to upgrade to an iPhone 16 in the upcoming months, according to research by investment firm Piper Sandler.
According to Piper Sandler, the percentage of teenagers who stated they were upgrading their phones due of Apple Intelligence was 29%, which “feels low given the enthusiasm.” Only one kid out of six claimed to be unaware of the AI tool.
According to a September article, several analysts were optimistic that the iPhone 16 would see a “super cycle” following the release of Apple Intelligence, resulting in a flurry of upgrades following a protracted period of demand.
Because of the new iPhones’ near-identical appearance to the old models, consumers’ unfamiliarity with AI, and consumer caution in China and around the world, some people are doubtful that the addition of AI functions will have the desired effect.
