Although phones have seven years of battery life, the Pixel Watch 3 will still receive upgrades for three years following its release.
Updates for the Pixel Watch 3
As of October 2027, or “at least three years from when the device first became available on the Google Store in the US,” the Google Pixel Watch 3 is “guaranteed software updates until at least.” The Pixel Watch 2 and the original Pixel Watch both use the same language.
The fact that Google has designated October as the launch month even though the Pixel Watch 3 is shipping one month ahead of schedule is noteworthy.
(For the Pixel 9 series, even though the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold won’t be available until September 4, it’s August 2031. The fact that the Pixel 9 Pro XL is a separate entry while the “Pixel 9 & Pixel 9 Pro” are one single item is another strangeity. You might anticipate seeing “Pixel 9 Pro & Pixel 9 Pro XL.”)
Google does not distinguish between “guaranteed security updates” and “guaranteed Android version updates” for Wear OS. Just “Guaranteed software updates”—which can include feature drops and other software updates—are included, along with “Google Pixel Watch security updates.”
The Pixel Watch 2 is a given for Wear OS 5 since they share the same processor. Though it’s unclear what the original model will receive, let’s hope it’s the same version and within comparable time limits. So far, Google has done an excellent job at restoring new app capabilities to older devices for the most part. Actually, that has already started.
Put on OS 5
Wear OS 5, which is based on Android 14, has a more densely organized grid-based app launcher (with the list still intact), a screenshot detecting API, and Watch Face Format version 2 that includes:
- Flavors: Preset watch face configurations that you can peruse in a companion app.
- Type of goal progress complication: Helpful when users are able to surpass a target, such step count.
- Complication type with weighted elements: Good for displaying discrete data subsets.
- Weather: Display the hourly or daily forecasted conditions in addition to the present weather.
- a data source for heart rate systems.
A media output switcher, often known as the system’s “user interface,” is present and allows users to select the device that will play media and view information about the content that is currently playing.
Regarding Health Services, you receive more thorough running metrics:
- Ground contact time is the length of time a runner’s foot is in touch with the ground during a single stride.
- Stride length: The amount of ground a single stride covers.
- The amount that a user’s center of mass rises and falls with each stride is known as vertical oscillation.
- Stride length divided by vertical oscillation yields the vertical ratio.
