The world’s fastest smartphone battery-charging system, which can fully charge a smartphone in less than five minutes, has been unveiled by scientists.
The “320W SuperSonic Charge,” a 320-watt fast-charging technology, was created by the Chinese consumer electronics business Realme and outperforms earlier chargers. Up until now, no manufacturer has been managed to surpass the 300 W technology that smartphone maker Redmi, a Xiaomi subsidiary, first introduced in February 2023 to charge a handset in 4 minutes and 55 seconds.
On August 14, Realme personnel showcased the latest technologies during the Realme 828 Fanfest in Shenzhen, China.
A smartphone’s battery may be charged to 50% in less than two minutes and to 26% in less than a minute thanks to the fast-charging feature that breaks records. As per GSMArena, a smartphone can be fully charged in 4 minutes and 30 seconds.
Fast-charging technique concurrently charges many battery cells within a single battery, in contrast to normal charging, which transfers power to a single battery cell or to multiple cells sequentially.
During the presentation, four cells were placed on top of one another in a folded battery design with a 4,420 milliampere-hour capacity, which was quickly charged by Realme officials. According to corporate executives, this design has a capacity that is 10% higher than standard designs.
According to a promotional film uploaded to the social network X, the scientists folded four battery cells to resemble satellite panels after miniaturizing each battery cell into layered structures to fit more charging capacity into a smaller space.
A “Pocket Cannon” power adaptor with a 3.3 watts per cubic centimeter power density was also developed by the business. The converter will provide electricity to other devices, such as iPhones with USB-C ports, although not at the same speed.
In contrast, a 240 W charger that the same business unveiled the previous year required an adaptor that had a power density of 2.34 watts per cubic centimeter. The Realme GT Neo 5 smartphone could be fully charged with this older technology in less than ten minutes.
According to business representatives, the new converter is compatible with numerous fast-charging protocols, including as UFCS, PD, and SuperVOOC. It also features two USB-C connections, allowing users to simultaneously charge two devices. For Realme smartphones, the maximum charging rate is 150 W, and for compatible laptops, it is 65 W.
The “AirGap” voltage transformer, which protects smartphone batteries from high voltages during electrical malfunctions such circuit breaks, was also introduced by Realme officials. This is to shield the smartphone from harm.
The mechanism that powers the transformer is known as “contact-free electromagnetic conversion.” In order to save battery life, the small transformer lowers the voltage to 20 volts, which enables the fast charger to retain a 93% power efficiency during charging.
