Today, Nokia unveiled a Multi-Access Edge Slicing solution that it will present live on the network at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2024 Barcelona (February 26–29) in conjunction with etisalat by e&.
By delivering the same subscriber experience across fixed and mobile access technologies, the creative solution enables operators to create new revenue streams and new premium slicing services across 4G/5G, Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), and Fixed Access (FA).
“Developing creative solutions requires close collaboration with our partners, such as etisalat by e&. Nokia’s network slicing leadership is once again highlighted by the introduction of Multi-Access Edge Slicing. According to Nokia’s Head of Strategy and Technology for Mobile Networks, Ari Kynäslahti, “With this most recent innovation, we can enable operators to provide premium enterprise and consumer services that enhance the customer experience.”
With Multi-Access Edge Slicing, network operators can provide a 4G/5G smartphone user with the ability to send confidential business data over a secure, high-performing network slice while simultaneously using another slice for video calls. Similarly, a family could use a multi-sliced FWA or FA network, using one slice for home working with a laptop and another for accessing services like HDTV streaming or cloud gaming.
Interestingly, each slice could be customized to have distinct network properties based on their unique needs, including latency, security, bit rate, QoS, and routing.
Numerous devices, including laptops, tablets, gaming consoles, Internet of Things devices, and 4G/5G smartphones, including new multi-slice smartphones with URSP (UE Route Selection Policy) capability, are supported by Nokia’s innovation in Multi-Access Edge Slicing. On-demand network slicing is another application for it.
Khalid Murshed, CTIO at etisalat by e&, remarked on this development: “We are dedicated to propelling the digital future by investing in new technologies and innovations and paving the path for industry revolutionization. Multi-Access Edge Slicing is a critical step in offering our clients cutting-edge services, as we are always striving to create new value.”
