In China, Samsung’s Galaxy S24 uses Baidu’s AI “Ernie” instead of Google Gemini

Samsung has replaced Google’s Gemini with its “Galaxy AI” software in the Chinese market.

According to CNBC, Baidu, a Chinese company, will provide “Ernie” for Samsung’s Galaxy S24, which will handle all the heavy lifting for its Galaxy AI software (via The Verge). According to reports, the bot is Baidu’s “response” to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which has amassed more than 100 million users.

Ernier will “translate content and summarize lengthy content into clear, intelligently organized formats,” the company said in a statement.

According to Baidu, its chatbot is also capable of responding to users in a “humanlike” manner. The “most powerful” version of the chatbot since its launch in November 2022, Ernie 4.0, was released by the company in October. According to the publication, the software has additional capabilities like understanding and reasoning.

Furthermore, The Verge reports that Baidu enhances the S24’s real-time call translation functionality in conjunction with a Google Circle to Search version.

According to CNBC, Samsung’s persistent withdrawal from the Chinese smartphone market may have contributed to the decision to drop Google. According to reports, the Korean OEM allowed Apple to take the top spot since it was not included in the list of the top 5 phone manufacturers in the area.

According to a 2019 report, Samsung underperformed in a few areas, which has been a common trend for the company for a while.

Samsung’s Galaxy AI will be powered by Google’s AI model Gemini for customers in other regions. Similar to Google’s Magic Editor, the software boasts features like “Chat Assist” for real-time translations. Users were previously informed by Samsung’s software teasers that Galaxy AI will have powerful on-device capabilities in addition to features that are exclusively accessible through cloud-based services (which require an internet connection).

Samsung is getting ready to start charging customers for the Galaxy AI features that will soon be available on older phones (apart from the S22).
