This week, Samsung has been inundating the internet with the October 2023 security update for a number of Galaxy devices, and the update has now made it to the Galaxy S20 FE, the first Galaxy S Fan Edition.
Nearly a dozen nations, including Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Uruguay, Mexico, and Switzerland, are receiving the update for the Exynos 990-equipped Galaxy S20 FE LTE. Only new security fixes are included in the firmware update, which has a firmware version number that ends in HWI7.
The October 2023 security patch for Samsung devices fixes 12 vulnerabilities that are only a problem for Galaxy smartphones and tablets in addition to two major vulnerabilities found in the core Android OS.
Some of those flaws run the risk of allowing attackers to access different areas of the software without the user’s knowledge and carry out actions like running malicious code, turning on and off Wi-Fi networks, installing a different version of an app, and a few other things. In order to avoid their exploitation before the October patch has been applied to all relevant devices, a few vulnerabilities have also been kept a secret.
Owners of the Galaxy S20 FE can use our firmware archive to see if the update is accessible in their country, or they can just try to download it directly through the phone’s Settings > Software update menu. Alternately, customers can use a Windows PC to install the full-sized firmware on the phone by downloading it from our archive.
Only the LTE version of the Galaxy S20 FE is receiving the October security patch as of October 12, but you can anticipate that the Snapdragon-powered 5G model will soon join the LTE version. The Galaxy S20 FE, along with the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra, arrived with Android 10 and was only eligible for three major OS upgrades. As such, don’t expect Android 14 and One UI 6.0 for either variant.
