Becoming a mother is an emotional roller coaster ride. There are moments of absolute joy and if you are a working woman, you might also struggle with missing schedules and deadlines. But there are several mothers who are absolutely amazing at both work and with kids. One such mother is Christel Barbie, mother to three beautiful kids who have just began their school. She shared how being a good mother can actually be productive at work as well.
Motherhood in the beginning is a challenge and so is business and so to establish a balance, you really need to be flexible. Christel Barbie plays a significant role at Wraptors Inc which is the biggest Car Wrapping Boutique in Canada. She is the content director at Wraptors and she also has a side hustle being an epoxy artist and she says that with a little effort, one can be good at both of them.
The first advice she would give to mothers who want to become an entrepreneur is to “Trust” themselves. Christel says that if you trust yourself, you will be confident enough to take that first step towards success. Trust in yourself is the key to juggle your role at work and in your family.
Being a mother also teaches one to become compassionate and love their work. It makes you more attentive and conscientious about your everyday routine and it definitely reflects in your work. Christel says that she organises charity events and believes in helping her community and being a mother has made her even more compassionate and purposeful for this mission.
The second advice that she has for mompreneurs is to ask for help when there is a need and accept help when it is offered. She says that there is nothing wrong in accepting help specially when you are figuring out how to strike a balance between your business and family. Give your time to family and kids and do not feel guilt about it. You can ask for help or favour and stay active and consistent with your work. You can build a team who will help and assist you while you are with your kids.
Finally, she says that every mompreneurs should make a routine and time blocking can prove to be effective in this manner. An entrepreneur who is also a mother should make sure that she has time for herself outside her role as a mother and entrepreneur and do things that make her happy.
